"A medieval story of knights and peasants, love and honor, courage and chivalry, trust and forgiveness.
"When three young teenagers set out on a seemingly impossible quest, they meet with people and obstacles they never would have imagined and are tested and tried beyond anything they can overcome on their own... unless they first discover what it really means to be loved by their Creator."
The autumn I was fourteen, I had the inspiration for a book - not my first story, but my first attempt at a full-length novel. It began in a notebook, the rough draft of which sounding surprisingly similar to my favorite book series. But as a year passed, I found that characters will rarely tolerate having the same conflicts and personalities as that of a different author's. My story came to life in those months. There was no pre-writing, no drafting, zero editing, only imagining what might come next.
The Secret of Cavariel (kah-vair-eel) was finished a year after I had begun it, filled with all the quirks and flaws of a beginning writer. But it was my book, and I had fallen in love with it.
Excited to see it in hard copy, I asked one of my best friends to design a book cover for me. She did, and for the next three years it sat as an idle computer file along with my finished manuscript. Life got busy, I forgot, or maybe I was just a little nervous to put it out there.
Then, a few months ago, I read through it again and decided that I was time to publish. If I didn't do it now, I never would - and it had to be quick before I changed my mind.
So I did a final grammar check (as well as one can with a 50,000 word manuscript at nine p.m.) and clicked the publish button.
And here it is! The moment my first copy arrived, I nearly burst! It was the same story I had written as a fourteen-year-old, with a few tweaks here and there, and my story finally lay in my hands.
So I share it now with any who will read it and hope those who do will love Annika, Will, and all their friends as much as I do. To God be the glory.
Welcome to Cavariel.
