A Note for the Heart // Freedom

I tend to look at many of life's principles from the back of a horse. The lessons I learn through working with horses often strike me as gifts from my Creator.

I have this verse from II Corinthians up in my bedroom, where it embellishes a painting of two horses as they run through a forest enshrouded in mist. Watching a horse run is breathtaking - riding a horse, as it gallops and reaches out for every flying stride, is even more so. But that beauty and freedom is only possible if my horse is willing to place its trust in me, and I in it. If either of us is afraid or uncertain of who is in control, then the beauty vanishes, and that freedom turns into a prison of fear.
Trust is a scary thing. To place your heart, your thoughts, your life into the hands of another can be terrifying. Yet once you establish a foundation of complete trust, obedience and respect, amazing things can happen. On the back of a horse, I feel free.

God is never-failing, perfect and steadfast since before the beginning of time. I know He'll never give up on me, but learning to place my heart, my thoughts, and my life into His hands can be difficult. What if He wants me to give up something I love? What if He asks me to do something that feels impossible?  What if His plans don't match with mine?
Yet, what if He takes me and His Spirit invades me, captivates me, lives through me until I become a living testimony to the power of His love?
   Something beautiful might happen.

In the presence of God's Spirit I am free.
